This is one of the first posts and hopefully it will help others. I have my laptop connected to my TV (55" Sony) and a Alienware Laptop. I used a headphone to RCA connection cable (25") bought online and this is how I hooked up the AUDIO. The Video was hooked up using a standard 20" VGA cable and went from the back of the LAPTOP "monitor" connection to the "PC" input on my TV. I then used the "FUNCTION + LCD" button on my laptop which many have so that you can do this exact thing except with a larger monitor. In essence the TV is just a larger monitor SO using the "FUNCTION + LCD" transfers the video signal to the monitor and vice versa. Sometimes the "LCD" is up in the F button areas of the Laptop and may just contain a picture of a Screen or Open laptop like mine does.
Now for the issue. when watching TV like HULU or Youtube the sound coming from the Laptop to the TV has a distortion that I can only call a humming or buzzing. Truly it is a Distortion of the sound when the PC is hooked to the TV. It is annoying and it is hard to watch anything SO I started researching it and found that it is probably a Ground Loop here is the definition of a
Ground Loop. Some of the recommendations to correct this are as follows and at the end I will give you what I did to fix it.
- Buy and Install a Ground Loop Isolator
- Attempt to GROUND your Computer better. Which typically there is no way to do...but some people try by pluggin in an adaptor at the plug with a connection to wire to a ground directly
- Deal with it
My solution was to buy a Ground Loop Isolator from the local Radio Shack. for around $20.00 OR off Ebay for about the same amount. I will post pictures and the results later.
